Comfort but lace loops break down too fast

Love shoes for comfort and tread. 2 pair in row the lace loop have degraded and broken after 1 year. I wear shoes into the ground with holes in toes and tread worn but these never get remotely that far when I can't tie them up

"Good for bumpy ground, slippery on smooth floors"

I bought these on sale for my boyfriend for Christmas to replace his horribly old, worn-out and treadless running shoes for everyday wear (especially for the upcoming winter).
His review: "cover my socks, protect my feet from the ground. Stiffer sole than sneakers is good for reducing foot fatigue on bumpy ground. Good tread. Sole can be slippery on wet smooth floors like terrazzo."
