Holes built into sides allow pea-sized pebbles

These shoes had the makings of one of the best Columbia water shoes I have purchased except for the three triangular holes on the outer side of each shoe. These holes place right at the sole are easily large enough to allow pea-sized gravel and other debris in and around your feet between your foot and the insole. Whether for river rafting or general walking around town, this is not acceptable to me. I also do not generally like the indentations on the sole at the middle of the heel nor on the ball of the foot. These seem like unnecessary wear points. The toe on this shoe is great. The rest of the construction seems very good--both sturdy and comfortable. The tread pattern and "stickiness" of the sole seem very good. This shoe might well be a 5 for someone who does not care whether debris gets around their feet. I bought these at another vendor and did not see the side holes in the photos. I have probably owned a half dozen Columbia water shoe models going back to Drainmaker III {which were awesome, btw]

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Comfortable shoe and stylish. Drains water well. Side holes allow sand and small pebbles in, but also allow them to work their way out. I would suggest going down a size especially if you plan to not wear socks.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Lightweight comfortable shoe for boating. Has plenty of cushion but could use a little more arch support. It runs a little on big side and is good for people with wide feet.

Impressed with these. High quality, light weight, and extremely comfortable. Fit true to size and the non-marking bottoms provide great traction on the boat.

Purchased a pair of Drainmakers a couple seasons ago and I always look forward to when the stream fishing weather warms up and can hang up the waders and wading boots and wear the Drainmakers instead. Comfort…check. Fly fishing requires hiking. I hike in these shoes with no socks and no blisters…ever! Pretty good support for such a light shoe. Drainage and quick-dry…Check. So many vents and screens, the water pours out of these super quick and on the trail in-between casts, they dry out pretty fast too. Would recommend these over Simms or Orvis wading shoes any day! I am ready to get a second pair to leave at my Sun Valley, Idaho vacation home.

I’ve worn Columbia boat shoes for over 10 years covering 3 different models. The new pair fits better and weighs less than older versions. And no more elastic laces that I always replaced.
