Sizing is off

Online purchase of a 36" belt, I'm now a 34" waist, couldn't get it to the first hole to secure it. Tried to find the next size up but the stores I visited had limited or no stock. I just could not find a basic black belt in my size. Returned what I ordered and gave up the search. I'm now using a tattered belt I used 35 years ago in high school and not happy.
