I have a track record of destroying shoes within a year. I use these everywhere—working in a kitchen, walking around the city, hiking, whatever. They've kept rain out, they're reasonably warm, they haven't separated from the base after three years of constant use. I've had to change the laces a couple times and I treat them with mink oil cause the leather has started to crack around bend points, but otherwise they're in much better condition than I would expect from a boot. Better yet, I usually have awful pain in my feet and back after working in industrial kitchens on my feet all day. I've never had pain with these. The first couple weeks wearing them, they were very stiff, but I take a lot of walks, and as long as I was wearing good socks, the shoe was comfortable even while the leather was loosening up. Rough socks absolutely shredded the backs of my ankles, though, so wear good socks as the boots soften. The only downside: if you like sledding, you'll love these boots. The traction is great in the summer—Ive never slipped even on wet, soapy painted concrete. The moment I'm drops below freezing, the sole becomes utterly useless. Runners stay put more. Ive slipped on compact snow, not even ice. I usually wore these all year round and just figured I was clumsy on ice, but I tried a different boot this past winter and was suprised to discover I didn't have to walk like a penguin. If you'd like to wear these in winter on snow and ice, get some spikes. Otherwise, great shoe.
