To honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we have partnered with Orange Shirt Society to sell orange “Every Child Matters” t-shirts in our stores with 100% of net proceeds going towards Orange Shirt Society’s Orange Jersey Project – an initiative that educates youth hockey teams about the history of the Indigenous Residential School System. This years design was created by Charliss Santos, a grade 10 student from Ponoka, Alberta. The design showcases an indigenous child between two hands, people, a heart and an eagle. Each symbol representing something important to the indigenous community. The child symbolizes all indigenous children who have suffered inside residential schools. The people represent the strong community the First Nations people have built and the endless support that they receive. The heart represents healing and forgiveness. And lastly, the Eagle represents acceptance, honesty, and freedom.
