    Great Alternative to Typical Raincoats

I tried your standard yellow rubber raincoats. They felt stuffy and uncomfortable, tore easily, and quickly became my own personal sweat sauna. I also tried raincoats covered with waterproof chemical sprays. They often had a strong chemical odour and had similar issues to the standard yellow rubber raincoats. This is the first time I've tried this kind of raincoat. It has no strong odour. It's a bit stiff at first, but it does not feel as stuffy or uncomfortable as the others, and it loses its stiffness the more often and longer it's worn. It hasn't torn (yet), and it appears to remain waterproof (even with a downpour) after it loses its stiffness. Like the others, it works as a windbreaker and retains body heat, but the air vents help reduce the personal sauna effect. The zippered pockets are well-designed to keep out the rain, but sometimes they seem to disappear under the rain flaps (which is epic if you don't want wet pockets). If you prioritise quick access to those pockets, then the design may take some getting used to. When used properly, the hood is well-designed to keep out the wind and the rain. If your raincoat is too big, you may need to wear a baseball cap to keep the hood from covering your eyes. There are some relatively thin reflective strips on the back, etc., which are somewhat useful. In my opinion, these reflective strips would be more visible and useful if they were thicker and also in other areas, especially if the wearer were also wearing a backpack. This raincoat has been a good investment so far. Will it survive until next summer? Only time will tell.

Trolling in gale force winds, buckets of rain and 3M swells, this jacket kept me pretty dry. The length of time you are in these conditions is what matters, eventually I was wishing I had bought the full PU HH product.

Very versatile and heavy duty! This jacket has stood up to the rigorous abuse my landscaping job has subjected it to.

    Viking Men’s Journeyman 420D Rip-Stop Jacket

I purchased this for my husband’s birthday, unfortunately it is too big for him so we’ll have to size down but otherwise he likes everything about it. I ordered a large thinking it would allow him to wear a sweater underneath but I should have gone with a medium.

not water proof otherwise like the style/cut/fit

bought 7 months ago used approx. 3 months during rainy season in Vancouver. While sitting in a tractor seat, not moving much, the pants leak in the crotch at the seams and the sleeves do not keep the arms dry. The shoulders leak along the seams. I really like the cut/style/fit but these 420D's are not waterproof at all... the inner water proof liner 'runs/tears' for some reason. Now use Helly Hansen inexpensive pull-up pants while on the tractor in the rain, much better and can buy 3 HH pants to 1 Viking 420D bib pants.

I bought the jacket and pants just to walk the dog on rainy days and it is NOT waterproof, the water gets through after 15 to 20 minutes and you will end soaked wet, also the zippers are really poor quality.
