I purchased this one after my Helly Hansen windproof/waterproof coat of 8 years lost its waterproofing (after many, many washes...it was also purchased at Marks). I love the weight, venting, and length of this coat and anticipate many years of use. I had to order it online as my size wasn't instore. It came quickly.

Q: Over time, with a lot of wear, does it require any DWR treatment ? (like Goretex) If you use backpacks or shoulder bags, would the interior laminate to the underside, also rub away, thus losing the waterproofing?

A: This WindRiver Women's HD3 Downpour Rain Jacket uses a 2-layer fabric construction with a waterproof & breathable membrane laminated to the backside of the shell fabric. The shell fabric should help protect the membrane from outside abrasion, including from a backpack, and the mesh lining will help protect the inside of the membrane. The shell fabric is treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish to help prevent it from getting wet. It is important to wash the jacket regularly to keep it clean and maintain the DWR performance. You can also tumble dry it on a low setting to help restore its functionality. However, over time, you may need to renew the DWR using a wash-in or spray-on application.
