Columbia Men's Konos Outdry™ Waterproof Hiking Shoes

Based on 2 weeks wear, I'm very happy with these walking shoes; they're light, medium soft underfoot with good stability and the lace up vamp allows for variation in foot size (important to me). I'm intrigued that the stiffeners at the heel and toe, which are normally inside a shoe, are over molded outside the upper as a style feature. My minor concerns are that there is no stiffener over the toes and I wonder if the fabric will wear prematurely; and I feel the shoe could use a bit more rocker or toe lift to make the toe-off more lively. I find the waterproof/breathable membrane makes the shoe a bit sweaty. Wear good socks.

I purchased these shoes in preparation for an upcoming trip to Scotland and Ireland this September. I plan to do A LOT of walking, and both countries are likely to experience significant rainfall during that time of year; hence, I wanted shoes that are both comfortable and waterproof. Fortunately, my Columbia shoes arrived a couple of days before I departed on a 2-week June vacation to Germany. From the moment I donned these shoes, I experienced comfort. After wearing them all of that day, I knew that these were the only shoes that I would take to Germany. (My carry--on luggage wouldn't hold a 2nd pair.) In southern Germany, there was so much rain that the Rhine overflowed its banks. Throughout 3 days of torrential rains, these shoes kept me dry; after 2 weeks of cobblestone roads and hill climbs, I didn't want to wear any other shoes. I require a Size 11 with snug padded heel, substantial sole, and ample toe box. Importantly, before buying these, I had conducted extensive research on waterproof "best for walking" shoes offered by at least 8 other major brands--several of which I was able to try on. None was as comfortable. All were substantially more expensive. Some were advertised as merely water "resistant" and require occasional silicone treatments. Others were styled more for hiking, rather than walking. This shoe embodied all features that I sought, without compromise. Plus, I was able to insert my orthotics without removing the soles and experienced no plantar fasciitis pain after multiple days when my phone app recorded 12,000+ steps. In summary, I love these shoes!

They’re perfect for standing all day at work or hiking on ‘The Mist Trail’ at Yosemite. On the trail, they didn’t miss a beat and gripped like a mountain goat, regardless of the conditions. I hope Columbia continues to include them in their lineup for years to come.

From 4:30AM to 8:30PM Sunday to Sunday, in the wet grass, climbing into trucks, and countless steps into venues, these shoes kept my feet dry, and were very comfortable the entire week. I should have bought a second pair just to give them a rest but they held up great!
